SHIMMER Main includes Bluetooth and 802.15.4 radios. The SHIMMER baseboard also contains a MicroSD card socket to incorporate extra memory resources, with up to 2Gbyte currently available. This allows the additional storage of data while the SHIMMER is not streaming and ensures no loss of data while mobile or out of network range. The SHIMMER base board also includes a tri-axial accelerometer with selectable range as standard.

The ECG board daughter card is used to capture ECG data. The ECG plastic is swapped out with the SHIMMER top and connects with the SHIMMER base enclosure to form the ECG SHIMMER.

The Gyro board is an internal expansion board designed for motion capture applications. The design uses a pair of dual-axis gyroscopes. The flex segment wraps around the SHIMMER module to properly orient the sensors for tri-axial measurement.

The Dual UART dock is used for programming the SHIMMER. This also can be used as a single unit charging dock and is connected via USB cable to any PC or laptop. The USB cable to connect with is included.

The multi charger is a battery charger cradle that can charge 6 SHIMMERs simultaneously. This is powered from the mains and is shipped with a power supply and U.S. plug

The analog expansion module enables two analog signals to be plugged into SHIMMER. Existing physiological sensor systems that have been tested on this include EOG, EEG, EMG and GSR.
